Versailles, Paris {A Tunic + White Denim}

Part II of our Paris trip (Part I HERE) ….I apologize for the overload of pictures in advance!

One of the highlights of Paris was our trip to the Palace of Versailles. I cannot begin to tell you how amazing this place was and how enamored we were with it (having an antiques business does that to you). If you’ve ever been there, you know how awestruck you can get when you’re standing in front of each fabulous work of art: each statue, bronze, painting and piece of furniture. It is truly magnificent and were great subjects for the camera. But at the same time, it’s a bit sad to think of how much money was spent at the expense of all the people living in poverty at the time.

Every part was adorned in one way or another, even the top of the Palace and the facade of the building. Below are pictures of the chapel, hallway with statues of the kings, and detailed shots of artwork. Also a picture of my favorite door inside the Palace – my obsession with doors was magnified on this trip 🙂

We didn’t realize just how large Versailles was until we started walking it. We were crazy enough to walk from the Palace to Marie Antoinette’s place and I know that we still didn’t scratch the surface of sheer magnitude of acreage of this place. Below are a few photos from her “vacation home” – the hubs preferred [most of] the furniture in Marie Antoinette’s home to the furniture in Versailles. Less reproductions and more authentic pieces.

Back in the city – these were iPhone photos taken during late evening dinner at Castel Cafe near the Eiffel Tower. I hate stopping off at random restaurants for fear I will be disappointed (I always look up reviews beforehand) but since the group was hungry, majority won and we chose this place for a late dinner. The food was good (my favorite was the dessert crepe) but the atmosphere was best. It was charming sitting outside with a gorgeous view of the Eiffel Tower around the corner.

On our last day, we went on the hunt for the well-rated Eric Kayser cafe. We were not disappointed. It’s a bit farther out than what I had thought but the bread and croissants were fantastic. We grabbed pastries and bread and coffee to go and sat outside the Museum D’Orsay to eat. Afterwards, we hit up the local cheese shop (picture below) to take some cheese for the road since it would be about 5 1/2 hours before our next destination.

This picture is of Brioche Dorée, a patisserie chain of sorts. Initially, we thought it was a local joint but then realized they had locations everywhere. We visited the one on Champs Elysées; they had much better food than the airport locations. Prices were great and the food was tasty – 8 euros for a drink, sandwich and dessert.
