Trench Coat + Black Denim

Time for the trench coat to make its seasonal appearance.

Another year has passed and I’m still obsessed with this trench coat from TJ Maxx. I think I’ve had it for 5 years now? That’s ancient in the fashion world. It truly is a classic (and a very affordable one at that). I can totally understand why people splurge on Burberry – a timeless trench coat that lasts for years is a gem, especially considering how difficult it is to find that perfect fit. Paired here with black denim and my latest flat obsession, the trench coat once again makes a powerful statement piece.

A few tips if you’re in the market for one…

*Look for one that has a stiffer fabric – a soft trench is nice to wear occasionally but won’t hold up quite as well as a sturdier fabric.

*Find one with classic details – belted sleeves, a button tab on the collar, a pleat in the back.

*Go neutral – I prefer a neutral taupe trench as opposed to a camel-toned trench but I know that a camel trench is about as timeless as you can get. I like to avoid trendy colors (However, I do have a navy trench that I love. It’s more of a fall trench).

*Keep the length on the shorter side. Mid-thigh is perfect.
