Layered Ruffles {Colmar, France}

Our second destination was the Alsace region of France. It took about 5+ hours to drive there from the airport (we took the metro back to the airport so we didn’t have to drive a vehicle in Paris). Our rental home was located in the mountains of the Munster area – it was a gorgeous home on the edge of the mountain. I say edge because it was literally a challenge getting up to the house with all the windy roads and sharp 90 degree angle turns. As you can see, the views were gorgeous and well worth the pain. One of the days was cloudy and you can see how unique the cloud formation is when you’re that high up in the mountains.

On the last day, we went to Patisserie Willy. This Schwarzwälder Torte was delicious as was the coffee. But our absolute favorite pastry shop in Munster was Patisserie Gilg (location in Colmar too). If you can’t tell by my countless pictures of cakes, one of my goals on the trip was to try as many cakes and pastries as possible. I’d say I was pretty successful – it helped that there were 7 of us and we could sample a bit from everything 🙂

A small boucherie & charcuterie in Munster serving the most amazing dried meats I have ever had. Cased sausages below, as well as local honey and cowbells.

The main reason we chose this region was to visit the charming and picturesque city of Colmar. We took a scenic 40 minute trip over, passing vineyards and glorious mountain views along the way. As soon as we got there, we bought sandwiches from Poulaillon and they were delicious. And then we went exploring…

Finally found a door my height 🙂 Wandering the streets was the best part of this town. There were so many cute places to look at and too many idyllic views. We fell in love with this charming city.

The “Little Venice” of Colmar…
We stopped off at this cute German-style restaurant and ordered tarte flambé and French onion soup. Both were amazing. La Sorbetière d’Isabelle was a perfect way to end the evening.
