6 Tips for Staying Refreshed with Lavelier

We can all relate when we hear words like “jet lag” and typically it conjures up memories of sleepiness, sleeplessness, dragging through work days and worst of all, skin problems having to do with changes in environment, altitude and weather.

Trying to maintain a fresh look and healthy skin can be difficult when you’re traveling often and frankly, even when you’re at home busy with work and life. I think it’s important to take extra measures for self-care and pampering, especially when it comes to your skincare routine.

So if you’re tired of staring at a dull complexion and you feel exhausted from life, here are several tips for improving your skin and taking those steps to making yourself feel better not only short-term but also for the future.

Treat yourself to a spa day or head to a hammam

There’s nothing quite as relaxing as a day at the spa. Though the entire day is indulgent and focused purely on YOU (and you may find it hard to tear yourself away from your work), this is one tip you’ll want to make time for.

If you want a unique spa day, look for a hammam with a spa experience. Hammams are found across the world and have slowly begun to make appearances in the USA. As a note, you may have to strip down for at least part of the time so just something to be aware of. This is a level of pampering that you’ll quickly become addicted to and you won’t want to leave as you’ll discover the experience is drawn out (around 30 minutes in each phase of the hammam) for maximum relaxation.

Start off the day with a smoothie bowl

Smoothie bowls are one of my favorite ways to increase my fruit intake. It’s amazing how much healthier you’ll feel when you start the day with a healthy bowl of fruit and healthy toppings (coconut, chia seeds, nuts) or even a protein-packed shake. While it’s easiest to pop into your local health shop for a bowl, don’t be afraid to make your own. They’re much easier to make than you might imagine and only take a few minutes.

Stay hydrated

You’ve heard it repeated over and over again and that’s because it’s one of the most important things you can do for your body: drink water often. Sometimes it’s easier said than done especially if you’re traveling. It’s hard to remember to carry a water bottle and sometimes totally impractical.

But staying hydrated makes all the difference; dehydration has been known to cause a myriad of skin problems as well as tiredness, headaches and joint pain so if you’re trying to get rid of that exhausted feeling, make sure you’re drinking enough water.

I own this water bottle and love it. It’s stainless steel so it keeps your water cool in the sun and the 40 oz is perfect for making sure you get enough of your daily intake.

Try a Gua Sha facial massage

Gua Sha is traditionally a form of Chinese medicine where skin tissue is scraped for medicinal purposes. However, more recently, Gua Sha has become a part of some skincare regimens and is touted as a great way to improve texture, lift and circulation in the face.

The length of time to complete a facial varies but averages around 20-30 minutes. Though you can schedule to have one done at a professional clinic, there are many online tutorials that tell you exactly what to do so you can achieve the same results at home. One of my favorite Gua Sha instructor videos is here.

Increase your juice intake

And I don’t mean the sugary kind. Sometimes it’s hard to find time to eat enough veggies and fruits especially if you’re constantly traveling. One of the easiest ways to up your intake of greens and colorful produce is to juice. You can either purchase a machine for use at home (highly recommend this one if you’re looking for a long-term solution) or find your favorite brand at a local grocery store. Lucky for us, there are plenty of juicing companies that have made it to mainstream shops so they’re pretty easy to find.

And there’s my 6 tips for maintaining healthy skin while at home! While you may not see drastic results immediately, over time I think you’ll find that your skin is looking healthier and more supple if you combine both internal and external care.
