A few months ago, a reader asked me what products I use in my curly hair and I realized what a good question that was. I didn’t always have curly hair – when I was little my hair was slick straight. During my middle and high school years and on, though, I battled with crazy curls, even curlier than now. I decided to divide this post into two sections – one a review of products I tried out and the second a post showing my hair regime (coming soon). Contrary to what most people think, my hair is fine, way too fine. When it’s wet, it feels like there’s barely anything there but dry, it poofs and frizzes. Even though I have never had ideal hair (I always wished for straight hair that was naturally highlighted), over the years I have learned to be thankful for what I have and to figure out ways to work with it. I chose 5 Target/Walmart products to review, all without parabens. As you can see in the following pictures, many of the products worked very similarly (and they all smelled so GOOD). But ultimately, my decision was based on which product allowed the curls to set in the longest. Also, I should note that my science side tried to keep all variables the same 😉
Facts about my hair:
very curly on top but bottom layer of hair has basically no curl
frizzy
can only last 2-3 days without a shampoo (curls must be reactivated daily)
Kukui Oil Frizz Defying Curl Cream 6 fl oz – $7.99 (also through Walmart)
*Thick, creamy Result: tamed frizz ok, curls appeared quickly, hair was a bit flat, curls did not last or reactivate
I’m not exaggerating when I say these take all of 30 minutes to make and bake and require only 4 ingredients. I mean, it really doesn’t get easier. This is one of my mom’s go-to recipe when she’s having parties at her house and I remember sneaking in more than a few of these cheese parsley cups…
We’re finally reached the end of our house renovations. I’m sure I’ve mentioned it but we have already finished all the grunt work (tearing part the bathrooms, painting the kitchen, putting in flooring, etc etc) but the hardest part, IMO, is the decor. I’m not naturally talented in that department so I always have to seek…
If you’ve been following the blog for a while now, I’m sure you’ve run into my obsession with breakfast foods. You’ve already seen recipes for glazed cinnamon-pecan coffee cake, loaded granola, and some recipes for gluten free breakfasts like gluten free pancakes and quiche. On our Europe trip, I tried at least three different quiches (all amazing) and ran across a…
This post was sponsored by Starbucks as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central. I received compensation and complimentary products to facilitate my review. I don’t have to tell you that it’s been miserable here the past few weeks. Currently, I’m wearing leg warmers over leggings, a sweater, socks and moccasins. The only thing…
This post was created in partnership with Blurb. I always feel like it’s a shame to travel, spending time taking lots of photos and then never doing anything with said photos. I used to store my photos in albums; I’d take my USB drive to Target, print out what I wanted and then frame my…
Figuring out what to wear in Hawaii in February can be a little challenging. The weather is obviously very warm but you have to factor in nights, rain and what types of activities you’ll be doing throughout the day. If you’re going to live at the beach each day, then you might just want to…
