I’ll be honest; I’ve never tried a meal service before this week and now I totally understand the draw. Dinner Thyme, a convenient meal service established in NYC in 2010, has a refreshing weekly menu of 9 options of easy-to-prepare meals in single serving sizes that are delivered right to your door. Each meal’s ingredients come in individually labeled bags – A B C etc… so even if you order 5 meals, you’ll have a simple time figuring out which ingredients go with each meal. Dinner Thyme sends a recipe sheet with nutrition information, a photo of the finished dish and the respective letter of the ingredients needed to make the dish. Each dinner takes only 10-15 minutes to prepare and comes with fresh ingredients whether they are fruit, vegetable or meat based.
I chose 3 different meals: chicken pesto pizza with artichokes and sweet peppers, jerk marinated chicken with mango salsa and curry rice and chorizo and spinach gnocchi with roasted red peppers. The ingredients arrive in a carefully packaged box with ice to keep perishables at the proper temperature. It took me about 10 minutes to make each meal (maybe about 5 minutes of actual hands-on work and the remaining waiting for the meats to cook) and it was so nice having all the ingredients on hand instead of having to run out to the grocery store last minute because I forgot an ingredient. All three meals were equally excellent – the gnocchi was a treat, the pizza had a perfectly thin crust with a lot of toppings and the mango salsa and curry rice combo were refreshing. We ended dinner on a sweet note of strawberry cheesecake and Oreo mousse cake, both of which were excellent.
